After last year’s promotion video for Gen Blue being in New Orleans where Coldwell Banker president, Budge Huskey, was cruising through the bayou on an air boat, we knew we had to step up our game for this year’s video unveiling New York City. We bantered around a few options but quickly eliminated base jumping from the equation. But we thought if Budge came in by “sea” last year, why not by air this year?

Two words came to mind: tandem choppers.

With the help of our friends at REP Interactive, we outlined a video where two helicopters would take to the air over New York City so one chopper could film the other. Budge was game so why not?

We headed over to Essex County Airfield in New Jersey on the day of the shoot and lo and behold, we were met with a surprise. Turns out the original Bat Copter from the old 1960′s Batman TV show starring Adam West and Burt Ward was at the airport. As a huge Batman fan and a viewer of the show in reruns as a kid I was as giddy as a school girl. Turns out Budge was super excited about it too. The Bat Copter was autographed by every cast member and is evidently still used in air shows.

Ok, back to the details of the video.

After gawking at the Bat Copter, Budge took to the air in his chopper while the video crew loaded into the other. The flight was only about 45 minutes, but gave us some amazing aerial footage like you saw in the video. When the crew landed we hopped into our cars and headed into the heart of Gotham, Times Square.

Since it would have been a little tough videoing Budge talking about Gen Blue inside the chopper, we needed a New York City local where we could capture a bit of the essence of New York. So we found a building right in Times Square that would let us film on the roof. Yes, the roof. To get a sense of how high we were, we took an elevator to the 48th floor then had to go up separate stairs, crawl under some vents and ducts in order to access the roof. If you’ve ever seen the first Die Hard, can you remember Bruce Willis in the final scene where he’s running from Hans Gruber inside the depths of Nakatomi Plaza? It was just like that except without the angry German guy.

We got setup on the roof and in a matter of 30 minutes had the footage we needed to make this year’s video even better than last year’s. Hope you enjoyed the video as much as we did making it, but I can honestly tell you not even the video can do justice to what we have in store for the next Gen Blue.

More to come, but don’t miss out. Register today.
